Special Exhibition Global Learning

Institute equalita organized three special exhibitions about Global Education at the education fair in Cologne, from 19th to 23rd of February 2002 under the motto „The Street of Sustainability“, from 9th to 13th of  February 2004 under the motto "Learning in Global Partnership" with the patronage of the Federal Minister for economic co-operation, Mrs Wieczorek-Zeul and from 27th of February to 3rd of March 2007 under the motto "Global Fairness and cultural diversity" with the patronage of the Federal Minister for integration in North-Rhine-Westphalia, Armin Laschet.

The fair for education is the central forum for presentation and discussion in the German educational scene. With the special exhibition Global Education, the organizers pursue the aim of making Global Learning, as a serious and important way of learning and teaching, part of the public discussion. Moreover, they try to speed up the process of integrating Global Education into the curricula.

In 2002, 28 organisations participated under the motto “The Street of Sustainability”. They gave a survey of the variety of new and innovative approaches, models and ideas in the field of Global Education especially on the following issues: school partnerships as a new form of dialogue, Global Education in schoolbooks, how can Global Education contribute to school development processes? Pupils asked the minister how patterns of the public opinion on development co-operation can be influenced. Thus an incentive was given to have a look at the subject and to integrate it into own work.

In 2004, 41 organisations (among others: Welthungerhilfe, Misereor, DED, DSE, terre des hommes, TransFair) participated under the motto „Learning in Global Partnerships“. Classes from different kinds of schools and levels presented their class projects. Some of them had already built up partnerships with pupils in Africa, Asia, and Latin America via the internet. They could therefore report about their experience with learning in Global Partnerships. The participating organizations gave a survey of their teaching material, educational projects, and exhibitions developed for Global Education on issues like “Fight against Poverty”, “Environment and Development”, “Global Partnerships”, “Peace and Human Rights” and “Intercultural Learning”.

In 2007, 34 organisations participated under the motto "Global Fairness and cultural diversity". Partner at this exhibition was the German department of the UN decade “Education for sustainable development”, which focused their action in 2007 on the topic “Cultural diversity”. Again several school classes presented their projects and discussed with visitors about them. All participating organisations presented their new materials for teachers, other educationalist, multipliers and media. In the frame of daily programme presentations, discussions and cultural performance were carried out.

In all three exhibitions more than 30.000 teachers, student teachers, educationalists, students, pupils, disseminators in adult education, activists in co-operation for development, politicians and experts with a special interest in education have been informed about and interested in Global Education.
