Seminars on support programmes of the European Union

Title of project

Seminars on the programmes of the European Union for the financing of non-profit and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the new  member countries in Central and Eastern Europe, especially on the PHARE ACCESS programme.

Target Groups

Representatives, employees and volunteers, project organizers and co-workers of NGO´s in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania.

Period

Seminars in 2000 and 2001, the ACCESS programme still runs on until 2006.

Project partners

Several institutions in Poland, Latvia and Lithuania were claimants and project rep-resentatives .  Through workshops, the institute equalita conveyed the necessary skills for the development of the project and for the application;   we then supported the representatives in contacting the au-thorizing institution. 

Financing

The subsidy usually amounts to 50% to 75%  of the project costs. According to the field of the pro-gramme, the  amount varies from 5.000 to 150.000 Euros.

Description of Project

With its four structure funds and numerous Special programmes, the European Union accords considerable financial means for the European integration process. The programme PHARE has been designed for the orientation of the new member states. The special programme ACCESS aims at supporting democratic development and civil rights by backing non-governmental institutions.

The equalita institute has realized workshops in Poland and Latvia that lasted several days.  Basics of the financing offers of the European Union and the application were conveyed Initially, the participants of the different organiza-tions are given an introduction into the structure funds and special programmes of the EU.

Afterwards, the programmes which are immediately accessible to the organizations, a.o. the ACCESS  and other PHARE programmes are presented in detail. Together with the participants, the future projects  of  the organizations are examined, and out of this, the ideas and issues  of the project will be developed.

Finally, the results are transformed into concrete applications and  further steps are planned.
A strong emphasis is put on the conveyance of the “programme logic”, as well as on a detailed intro-duction into the conditions of the application.
