"Kreativ Global II" in autumn
There is a lot going on at ‘Kreativ Global II’ this autumn: The groups Theatre of Relevance (from India) and M.U.K.A.-project (from South Africa) are guests at a total of eight of the ten educational institutions participating in the project in NRW.
The exchange focusses on the topic of SDG 1 ‘No Poverty ’. Knowledge on the topic is imparted through five workshops and the performance of the guest groups' prepared plays. The participating students experience a change of perspective, learn more about the host country and work together to find solutions to global challenges. These approaches are then expressed in an artistic way.
The groups' plays:
Theatre of Relevance: ‘The ... other world’
The play deals with the origin of life on earth through the five elements - fire, water, earth, air and space. Using a mixture of dance, music and drama, the actors explore the various dimensions of ecology and poverty. The play deals with the complex dynamics between rich and poor, educated and illiterate and the different social classes. The production raises questions that encourage reflection on the omnipresent discrimination based on racism, religious affiliation or political attitudes.
M.U.K.A.-project: ‘Tata Mandela From Beyond’
‘Bra Jerry’, an 80-year-old homeless man, former liberation soldier and companion of Nelson Mandela, sits on a street corner in the heart of Johannesburg. He reminisces about his past, pausing every now and then to read his newspaper.
The stories in Bra Jerry's newspaper contain some disturbing articles, reporting on the tragedies of severe storms and floods, extremely high or freezing temperatures and disasters caused by human error. Many parts of the country are affected.
These stories are portrayed on stage by the young artists in an exhilarating theatrical journey - peppered with traditional dance, drumming and music - and with Tata Mandela inspiring them on their journey.
The play is suitable for all ages due to the energetic dances, colourful costumes and props, and melodic and rhythmic music.
Author and director: Brian Nhlanhla ‘SPIDER’ Phakathi
Choreography: Vezuthando ‘Ashley’ Mthombeni & Nozithelo ‘Royalty’ Sibanda
