Empowering Schools for a Waste-Free Future: Waste Not Want Not Project Celebrates European Week for Waste Reduction

(Brno, November 16, 2024)

As the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) took place in November, the "Waste Not Want Not" project proudly joins the movement to promote sustainable practices across Europe. This week-long initiative resonates deeply with the mission of *Waste Not Want Not*, which is dedicated to empowering schools to lead the charge in reducing waste and transitioning to a circular economy.

Revolutionizing School Communities Through Innovation

The Waste Not Want Not project positions schools as educational hubs for their communities, fostering a holistic approach to sustainability. By combining cutting-edge digital educational tools and the whole-school approach, the project equips students, teachers, and families to collaboratively adopt waste-free practices that extend beyond the classroom.

“Schools are uniquely placed to drive change,” says Carlo Tiedge, Project Coordinator for "Waste Not Want Not". “Our tools and methodologies don’t just address waste reduction as a concept but empower the entire school community to take tangible steps toward a zero-waste future.”

The project Waste Not Want Not, supported by the European Union and funded under the Erasmus+ program, will enable teachers across Europe to access online training support in delivering education for sustainability. The project will help tackle the huge issue of plastic and food waste in our society by inspiring young people to be the change they want to see. The project started in September 2023 and will last till August 2026. The Waste Not Want Not project aligns with the EU’s commitment to sustainable development and climate action
